Summer is full of fun out door activities, such as the beach, boating, private and public pools. Going for a swim is one of the most popular activities to take part in during these north east summer months.
It is important to follow safety rules and regulation at all times and all ages. A child under five and adolescents between the ages of 15-24 have the highest drowning rates. Swimming pools are known to be 14 times more likely than a motor vehicle to be involved in the death of a child four and under. Most accidents happen at bbq’s, parties, public pools and beaches. This occurs when one adult thinks another adult is watching and that same adult thinks you are watching. Always keep an eye on your loved ones don’t depend on someone else to do it for you. For those of you that own pools and leave your children with a sitter or nanny make sure they are strong swimmers. Six deaths on Long Island alone in the last two years were a direct result of non swimming nannies.
Fact: 20% of all drowning occur with a certified life guard present.
Fact: 9 people drown a day in the united states on average.
Always take precaution and have a fun and safe summer.
