Q:  How long have you been with Maxons?

A:  1 year 7 months

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  I thought this is a very unique profession, and it felt good to be around people who had a lot of experience and passion for what they do.

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  The ins and outs of a property loss.

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  Where there are obstacles, there are opportunities.

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  To answer, I’m going to pull from the first two lines of our company’s vision: “Maxons is a unique organization of great people doing extraordinary things under difficult circumstances. Maxons makes people’s lives better by providing caring, professional, & expert service at a critical time.”

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Teamwork – I’m fortunate to work with a fine group of caring individuals. Furthermore, in this industry, there are so many moving parts that go on, and without a solid unit, nothing would get accomplished. Any success I have or will have, I must first and foremost give credit to the team I work with.

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  There isn’t one in particular that comes to mind, but my favorite stories come from my clients, who beam with happiness, when talking about making it through and recovering from a disastrous event with grace because of the work we did. Every time I hear a story like that, it definitely gives a warm feeling, and makes me feel good.

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Kevin, a Regional Manager, about his experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long have you been with Maxons?

A:  Almost 8 years.

 

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  I was coming from Pennsylvania – but felt there was still a very family friendly atmosphere – more so then I expected for a NYC firm.

 

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  That it takes a lot more effort to communicate and handle claims on a personal level in the city than it did in the suburbs.  And then the different internal processes.

 

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  The company likes to have fun with each other and enjoy working with each other, both at work and away from work.  That is rare.

 

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  Because I get to help people everyday, they need guidance and assistance through their emergency and I can help.  And our clients are grateful for what we do, and our ability to provide prompt, quality service.

 

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Teamwork – everybody here is always willing to pitch and help anyone else in the company.

 

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  Our perseverance during hurricane Sandy.  Many of our employees were without electricity and water in their own homes, but they persevered and continued to help others during that challenging time.

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Holly, a Senior Project Coordinator, about her experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long have you been with Maxons?

A:  It will be 17 official years in January. I started as a temp in October 2000.

 

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  I had recently moved to NYC and when I started at Maxons and our office was up on the 8th floor of the building we are still in, but with much less people than we have now. While I cannot recall how exactly I felt after being here for a month, I just knew it to be a very busy company, that I was never bored, and something compelled me to keep coming back!

 

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  I learned how to enter reports in Excel spreadsheets (no really!) and use our then estimating software, Qirra. In some way or other, I was supporting pretty much all of the staff members there since there were no Project Coordinators back then. It was a very different time, I learned so much, and I am amazed every day at all the changes and improvements that have happened since then!

 

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  How impressive it is when everyone comes together so quickly to help out in both major disasters, mini CATs and every day emergencies.

 

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  When a customer is so happy with what we have done and shares it with me, it is such a rewarding thing to hear.

 

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Enjoyment. I have never worked for a company that both plays as hard as they work. Maxons parties and events are great celebrations of our success!

 

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  Having been both here at Maxons and in NYC for just under a year, when 9/11 hit it was indescribable how overwhelming it all was. Knowing I was working for a company that ended up having a huge impact on the tremendous cleanup initiative gave me a sense of pride. (At the time of course, we all just took it one day at a time because it was so chaotic and unknown!) I will always remember all the piles of files everywhere, the great temp labor brought in that we desperately needed (some are still here!), and being able to calm and help the many, many frazzled, stressed and worried customers that needed our help so badly. We were all doing the best we could, and somehow we came together and persevered.

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Cynthia, our Accounts Receivable Manager, about her experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long been with Maxons?

A:  10 years

 

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  When I first started was just myself and our previous Controller in Finance, so tons of filing had piled up!  I came in early, caught up on a lot of AP stuff, filed, and did mailing.  My first month I was working 10 hour days to catch up the finance department!  So when I started I was a little stunned!  But we worked together and got things caught up, and it was excellent training for me, I enjoyed it!  I got involved in putting new systems in place.

 

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  I had to learn how to do billing and send it to our PM/PC team.  The process was kind of dated, so I had to adjust to learn how to get it done, and then come up with a new system.

 

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  I came from a company that was really chaotic, I was wearing so many different hats.  The same thing happened here, I immediately had to learn the new hats!  The skills I feel like I learned and I still use are time management and organization.  Time management particularly, because there was so much to do, and when we get busy I need to be able to make sure I am doing my best for my colleagues.

 

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  I have a passion for problem solving.  I really like to do that.  When it comes to collections or our systems.  I like to make things work!  My passion is being challenged by my work – and it keeps me engaged.

 

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Tenacity!  I like to keep on a problem – no matter what it is – until I get it solved.  I like to do something until it is done!  I am result oriented as well, but I like to stick it out with a problem, especially if others have tried and not gotten it to and end point.

 

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  I came from a law firm before working here, and I saw people doing all kinds of crazy things and getting sued.  When I came here, my very first full staff meeting was only a few weeks after I started.  During the meeting management was really upset about a discussion of our crews “were not wearing shirts.”  And I assumed they didn’t have shirts on at all!  Little did I know they were talking about our crew tee shirts that are Maxons branded.  I was horrified our crews were walking around shirtless on job sites!   Thankfully someone clued me in pretty quick!

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Gregg, a Client Services Associate, about his experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long have you been with Maxons?

A:  I started in 2001, and stayed for six years.  Then I can back in 2015, altogether almost 8 years.

 

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  Having been at other places, here you can see the commitment to culture and it is one of the best things about this place.  It is practiced and given attention.  We care about maintaining healthy information and database as well, that is easy to let slide, but it make all of our jobs so much easier.

Upper management is really emotionally healthy and that filters through the entire organization and there is a large level of transparency, and everyone has an equal opportunity to learn grow and succeed and, it is really unique and wonderful to find.

 

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  Had to learn what the business was in the very beginning.  And I happened to join the company after one of the largest disasters and tragedies this country had ever seen, so I had to learn quickly.

 

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  Communication and mutual respect go a long way.  Don’t over promise and under deliver, it is not only a great rule for business, but a great rule for life.  And that our core values are not only business values, they are personal values.

 

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  I think it is truly a business where you are helping people.  Whether you are actually out in the field or not, someone calls and they have a real need for our help.  It’s a wonderful feeling to either help get someone get back on their feet, get their home or business back together.  Whether we are dealing with the end user or other professionals in the industry, it is nice to hear our work is appreciated.  By doing a good job we make sure everyone looks good.

 

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:   I really like responsibility, and enjoyment!  I think if you take responsibility for something the rest of it will all fall into place.  No one here can say “it’s not my job” everyone takes ownership of anything that may come their way.  By doing this it touches on all our other values.

I also think a lot of people don’t enjoy where they work, and I love that here it is a major tenant of our company.  People spend a lot of time at work, and if you don’t enjoy it, you can’t do your job well.

 

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  One of the reasons I love this company so much is that I started during 9/11 and it was an intense, full on experience.  There was a sense of us all pulling together.  I have never had an experience like that.  Where dealing with something so tragic, yet I felt like I was contributing and making progress.  In the midst of all that I made great relationships with coworkers and it was a foundation of my young professional live.  It speaks to the character of this place, that despite what seemed like an impossible task we pulled together and cared about each other.  This part of the company has lasted, even when we deal with catastrophes still, we pull together and have an intense focus on the needs of our customers and clients.  And it is why I am so happy to be able to come back.

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from David, a Senior Project Manager, about his experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long been with Maxons?

A:  2 years.

 

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  There was a lot of open communication and teamwork.

 

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  I had to relearn the subway system! I came from the industry, so I really needed to learn the Maxons way!.

 

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  Teamwork – you can’t do it alone!

 

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  Because I get to help people.  It is my nature, and I get to do it professionally.  Outside of Maxons I am involved in helping my community, as a volunteer firefighter, I like to be a resource to people.

 

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Optimism.  What we deal with could be the worst experience of our customer’s life.  That means we need to be empathetic and understanding with them, and help them see there is hope and that this will pass.  And we get to help them through all of that.

 

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  In general how the group comes together on large losses.  I just handled one with multiple apartments, multiple floors, there were a lot of needs on the site.  Multiple Project Managers jumped in to help me, our warehouse team was unstoppable and our Vice President was with me every step of the way.  The job went well and I couldn’t have done it alone.

I have worked for a few other restoration companies and Maxons is the only one that adheres to the core values – here it is not just words on our wall, we live them.

Q:  How long been with Maxons?

A:  2.5 years

 

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  I thought everyone was so nice, incredibly helpful.  It was very complimentary, very supportive because everyone wanted me to do well.

 

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  I had a learning curve for working for a small company, I had some culture shock since I had always worked for massive companies.  I was able to get more things done, less red tape.  And I know everyone and what they do here.  It was a big change.  But everything is simpler.

 

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  How to make sure a job is 100% successful!  That I can reach out for help, have the tools in place, making sure all communication is on time.  All the tools are in place for me to do the best I can.

 

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  I love the urgency.  I learn something new every day.  I get to see incredibly exciting things on a regular basis.  No 2 days are the same, I always have something brand new to learn.

 

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  All of them are important.  A lot of people probably pick teamwork, but it feels like so much more than that.  Even when we make mistakes everyone has our back.  We are one team – if I fail everyone fails, when I succeed everyone succeeds.  I feel like we have each others’ backs.

 

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  It was Valentine’s Day 2016, I woke up planning to spend time with family.  Then I got a call about a large job at a mall.  The mall was flooded, 13 very high end shops and restaurants needed help.  I was dealing with all different store owners, managers, and a variety of adjusters.  There were a lot of differing personalities and opinions.  I rushed out of the house in a short sleeved shirt to get there and start working, it was a bad day to forget a jacket, it was the coldest day of the year.  When i got onsite the owner of the property was so concerned he offered to buy me a sweatshirt because he was worried I’d be cold!  It was so sweet, shows how great out clients are!
