Meeting Maxons!

Meetign Maxons

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Monika, our Director of Client Services, about her experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long have you been with Maxons?

A:  7 months.

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  I settled in pretty quickly, everyone was really helpful, and worked well across departments and offices.  I felt really welcomed.  Everyone always asked if I needed anything, especially the more senior people.  My coworkers were easy going and open, and eager to help each other.  I didn’t feel “new” for long.

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  The restoration business terminology. I was coming from real estate and I knew some things, but understanding exactly what we do, and that it is more than just a business, we really are in business to help people.  And I realized everyone who works here really wants to help people.  That we are in a business of caring.

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  Don’t let the highs get too high and the lows get to low.  We say it a lot and it has stuck with me.  It keeps me wanting to grow and not get fixated on problems.  Tomorrow is always a new day.

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  Every day is different.  What we do is restore people’s lives and hopes, we all have a passion for that.  Especially when we go through a really busy time – seeing how things can change from hour to hour!   It is great to watch how much our staff cares about what we do.  In sales I have learned to really appreciate what the Project Managers do – and that they care a lot about each and every project.

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Teamwork – we have different locations, people in the field, we aren’t always in the same room, but we really work as a unit and a team no matter what.  Whether it is busy or not, we are all in it together.

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  On of my favorite moments was going to a large fire job with our VP and a Project Manager.  A caterer that does large, high end events had a fire above their kitchen, and had an event that night they needed to prepare for.  It was great to see how quickly we got a large amount of people there so we could meet their very tight time line.  We were able to help them, and do the right job!

Also – on my second day of work the Maxons team held a Welcome Breakfast for me – it was a surprise that shocked me!  I stared at all of them like a deer in the headlights as I am not good with surprises.  But it really bonded us all, we still laugh about it.

Additionally in my first week of work was our annual summer outing at an estate with a pool.  I met our CEO for the first time while putting on sun tan lotion pool side.  He said nice to meet you and then he dragged an umbrella over to give us some shade, because that is how we roll here!  Always helping someone out no matter who we are!

I have also had countless fun moments with my coworkers who have always made me laugh!

Meeting Maxons!

Meetign Maxons

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Michael, our Corporate Controller, about his experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long have you been with Maxons?

A:  10 years

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  That it was a good company, with knowledgeable people, and solid financials.

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  The first thing I had to learn was the process of a new industry, both out in the field and internally.

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  I have learned a lot of important things since I have been here.  I learned the importance of a solid business development team.  I have learned that a strong corporate culture can actually overcome weaknesses.

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  When we do well as a company, we do so by helping people.  We are generally working with people who have a challenge, through no fault of their own, and being able to assist them is rewarding.

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Teamwork – at the end of the day in any business with more than one person, if there is no teamwork, there is no success or results, there is nothing.

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:   One of my favorites was from a summer outing a few years ago.  We put together a scavenger hunt in Central Park and I got to run around with my team and see things I haven’t seen before in Central Park.  We were having a fun adventure while working on a project.  It was a fun day!   And it was an unexpected fun day!

Meeting Maxons!

Meetign Maxons

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Dan, a Project Manager, about his experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long been with Maxons?

A:  A year and a half.

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  We had a client appreciation party in my first week – I got a sense of our fun, family environment through that.  And it as clear how important relationships are to our culture. Our mission is “To make the world a better place -one relationship and one project at a time.” And I realized that it wasn’t just talk – that we value our relationships.  Then I was also hoping I wasn’t in over my head!

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  All the software and computer systems, Goldmine, Xactimate.  And I needed to learn how important our open lines of communication were.

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  Good communication and consistent communication can make everyone’s life easier.  It will make it easier on myself and my customers.  I learned it was better to say “I don’t know, let me find out,” than to not answer at all.

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  The industry is something I knew nothing about until I started here.  But it has been a very good and strong experience in learning about the professional business world, especially working in Manhattan.

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:   Responsibility is one that I always likes to keep in mind.  I want to remember my positive accomplishments and my challenges.  I have to own up to mistakes and learn from them.

Teamwork is also big here, I wouldn’t be able to do a lot of what I do without help and support from everyone at Maxons.  Someone can answer any question or any problem.  Not all companies have that. I know people who don’t have access to that, and it makes me grateful to be here, people go above and beyond to help me out.

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  I handled a loss that was the result of a house fire in Queens.  I really had to be very compassionate with the family, they had lost everything, clothing, toys – everything.  It felt so good to provide comfort and show them the future could be bright.  I was able to be a resource for them.

Meeting Maxons!

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Kathy, a Sales Coordinator and Account Manager, about her experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long been with Maxons?

A:  8.5 years.

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  Amazing!  I loved the culture – there was a lot going on, lots of events and different things happening.  We were busy.  I was really impressed how much got done.

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  That planning and communication is very important within the team.

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  Consistency, we always need to be doing follow up and follow through.

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  Because we help people at their worst.

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Optimism because it is very easy to become negative and dwell.  If we all did that everything would go downhill.  It is easier to commit to the rest of our values when you are positive and optimistic.

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  At one of our company outings we had some music playing while we were hanging out by a pool.  “Single Ladies” came on the radio and two of our Project Managers got up and did the whole single ladies dance – not only in front of us, but the other guests at the hotel!  We have a lot of fun, and it still makes us crack up!
