Meetign Maxons

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Jeffrey, our Vice President of Operations, about his experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long have you been with Maxons?

A:  24 years

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  That we were a small company with lots of growth potential (this was in 1994).

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  How to write up a loss for unit cost estimating, at this time everything was done by hand, we didn’t have any of the helpful documents we know have like tick sheets.

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  How to take care of a customers’ needs.

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  Because we help people.

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  It is a tie between teamwork and improvement.  Teamwork – because nothing we accomplish can be done as an individual, we need a team.  Improvement – because my role as a leader is to improve systems and processes and make us efficient and successful at what we do.

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  I have so many stories it is hard to pick one!  I think one of my favorite moments was that I secured a large, high profile job because a consultant on the job saw my Certified Restorer (CR) designation on my business card, so he knew we knew what we were doing!  It was rewarding to see all my hard work for the certification earn us respect and trust.

Meetign Maxons

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Kathy, a Sales Coordinator and Account Manager, about her experiences at Maxons.

Q:  How long been with Maxons?

A:  8.5 years.

Q:  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A:  Amazing!  I loved the culture – there was a lot going on, lots of events and different things happening.  We were busy.  I was really impressed how much got done.

Q:  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A:  That planning and communication is very important within the team.

Q:  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A:  Consistency, we always need to be doing follow up and follow through.

Q:  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A:  Because we help people at their worst.

Q:  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A:  Optimism because it is very easy to become negative and dwell.  If we all did that everything would go downhill.  It is easier to commit to the rest of our values when you are positive and optimistic.

Q:  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A:  At one of our company outings we had some music playing while we were hanging out by a pool.  “Single Ladies” came on the radio and two of our Project Managers got up and did the whole single ladies dance – not only in front of us, but the other guests at the hotel!  We have a lot of fun, and it still makes us crack up!

Meeting Maxons

Meetign Maxons

Our Blog series, “Meeting Maxons!” continues this week. We will hear from Rich, a  Senior Director of Client Services, about his experiences at Maxons.

Q.  How long been with Maxons?

A.  16.5 years

Q.  Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?

A.  That it was much more technical than my previous role in the industry. In my old role I didn’t have a computer, so right away I knew it was more advanced here.  Maxons also had a bigger staff with divided responsibilities. I was used to doing it all!

Q.  What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?

A.  How to turn on and use a computer! Damon will say when we hooked up the computer I asked him what the mouse did – I thought it was a phone.

Also having to learn Qirra (estimated software) all those years ago – had to learn to do an estimate on the computer instead of long hand!

Q.  What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?

A.  For the sales end of the business, I learned the key to success was relationship building, and that I could do it!

But also the customer service is so vital here, everyone in the industry needs to learn it.

Q.  Why do you have a passion for this industry?

A.  I love helping people – love to be around people. Whether in the industry or personal life, it is just who I am.

Q.  Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?

A.  I don’t think one of the values means the most to me but there are 5 of them that I look at all the time to make myself better at what I do.

Sincerity, Tenacity, Results, Improvement, Teamwork

If I have to pick one it would be Sincerity. But they all fit what I stand for.

Q.  What is your favorite Maxons story?

A.  During the World Trade Center attacks I learned so much about myself. Things I never imagined having to tackle I handled on a daily basis.  Seeing our staff and first responders doing amazing things – that everyone just did whatever it took.  We didn’t have enough office space – people were sitting on floors working.  It was a time of crisis and we were able to give a small bit of comfort to people trying to get back into their homes.

Here is the first in our new blog series, “Meeting Maxons!”  We are going to post short interviews with our staff so everyone can hear first hand how it is to work at Maxons!

Our first Volunteer for the series was Ruta our Marketing Manager.

Q.    How long been with Maxons?
A.  6 years (5.8 years)

Q.   Do you remember what your impressions were of the company after being here for about a month?
A.  I liked it – at the time I was part of a growth surge.  We had just hired a few people and had a lot of new people all at once.  Eye of the storm had just changed – the company was growing and trying new things.

Q.    What was the first thing you had to learn when joining the team?
A.  Goldmine (our CRM).  I also had to spend time on industry terms – differences between Public Adjusters and Independent Adjusters, or Brokers versus Agents.  Had to learn our verticals.

Q.    What is the most important thing you have learned since you have been here?
A.  Planning and process.  The MAP training has been great, have gotten us focused on working a lot with timelines, which makes us forward thinking.  We are always asking what we do next.  Never had that before.

Q.    Why do you have a passion for this industry?
A.  I didn’t know anything about it when I started.  And first few days was freaked out about suffering a damage in my home!
But it is never the same here – no jobs are the same – we find ways to solve the unsolvable.  We end up in a lot of buildings in the city that we would otherwise never be in.

Q.    Which company core value speaks to you the most – and why?
A.  I feel like the biggest corn ball for saying all of them.
I am going to go with Enjoyment.  You can see it in our events.  In the faces of happy clients.  You simply can’t escape it.

Q.   What is your favorite Maxons story?
A.  I had been here a week and went to a social media training and another student in the class knew us, we had worked for him and he loved us!  I didn’t know much about what we did yet – but to see his reaction was amazing!  I could really see we made a difference for people!
